The Cairns Central Fashions on the Field competition is the ultimate celebration of style and individuality — and it takes centre stage on our two spectacular Saturday race days.

Ladbrokes Cannon Park comes alive with colour and creativity as contestants compete across five exciting categories, all inspired by the 2026 Carnival of Colour theme. From rising style stars to perfectly polished pairs, this is your moment to shine. 

Red Beret Hotel Cairns Cup Day — Saturday 29th August 2026 

The grand finale of the Carnival of Colour calls for your most spectacular look. With five categories and substantial prizes up for grabs, Cup Day Fashions on the Field is the most coveted fashion competition on the Far North Queensland racing calendar. 

2026 Categories — Both Saturday Race Days: 

• Under 30 — Celebrate your style with a vibrant, youthful take on race day fashion. 

• 30+ Ladies — Polished elegance meets the colour and energy of the Carnival of Colour.

Exclusive Fashions on the Field — Ladies Long Lunch 

Ladbrokes Cairns Newmarket Ladies Day — Friday 28th August 2026 

For those attending the exclusive Ladies Long Lunch in the Silks Pavilion, there’s a very special Fashions on the Field competition just for you. Photo judging on arrival identifies the Top 10 finalists, who then go head-to-head in a live judging round with substantial prizes for the winner. It’s an intimate, elegant, and fiercely stylish celebration of race day fashion — exclusively for Ladies Long Lunch guests.

Dress Code 

Race day fashion is encouraged across all events. We recommend smart casual to formal attire. Hats and fascinators are popular but not required — unless you’re entering Fashions on the Field, in which case we’d say go all out.
