RACING AT CANNON PARK

Cairns Jockey Club’s first raceday for the year was the Men of League Charity Day on Saturday 9th April.

Cairns race goers will sample some high excitement racing during August with the staging of the Cellarbrations Cairns Cup Carnival. Racing will be mixed with high glamour with the return of the Myer Fashions on the Field Competition held in the perfection that is a Cairns Winter.

The carnival has proven a winner with the public since the change to a 2 consecutive day carnival in 2007. Ladies Day on Saturday August 6th will probably be a 6-race card with the addition of another self funded race.

Cup Day is Sunday August 7th with the main races being the running of the Cellerbrations Cairns Cup, Babinda Electrics Newmarket and the Lightning. 

One of our main feature races not at carnival time is for the 2-year olds and held on October 22nd with the running of the $50k Brothers QTIS 600 over 960m. This race is part of the Queensland Racing bonus series for yearlings purchased at the QTIS sales on the Gold Coast each March/April. It will be the third running in 2011 with local horse Barrier Jet, owned by a number of the CJC Committee, taking out the 2010 title.
