| TIPS FROM THE JUDGES |
LADIES
Dressing for the races is unlike dressing for any other event. It’s a time to unleash your inner princess (or prince) if you want to look your best among the fashionistas on course. Here are a couple of simple rules you should follows:
Dress for Daytime
If you would wear it to a nightclub, chances are it’s not suitable for the race course. Think well-cut dresses that fall to the knee or just below, along with contemporary takes on the classic suit. Many designers are incorporating modern touches in their suiting now, such as ribbons instead of buttons on the jacket and frayed edges rather than a straight seam. Choose something in a style that suits you rather than what is trendy but doesn’t suit your figure.
Dress for the Season
Incorporate this winter’s colour palette and accessories, not forgetting Black and White is fashionable for any season. Shoes are another area to consider when thinking about seasonal dressing. Pumps, peep toes or other closed in toe shoes with stockings are great for Autumn and Winter.
No bare heads
The races are one of the few times is it fashionable to wear something on your head. Drop into any of our department stores, smaller retailers especially shoe and fashion shops, or buy some of the elements and make one yourself. Traditionally straw hats are seen in Spring and Summer and felt hats are for Winter and Autumn. However Cairns Cup is a tropical winter carnival so mix felt, wools and parisisal straws, but pack away the sinamay for Spring/Summer.
Ultimately, our judges are looking for the total package with the emphasis on the wow factor, personality and attitude. |
