Winner – Best Festival and Event, Tourism Tropical North Queensland Awards 2013 & 2014

The Cairns Cup is a headline event of the Cairns social calendar and a major highlight each year for the local racing industry and one of the best things to do in Cairns. Boasting a carnival atmosphere with a winning trifecta of exhilarating racing, superb fashion and exciting company the Cairns Cup welcomes its community and visitors to beautiful Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef every year. Held annually in August during Tropical North Queensland’s tropical winter, the over 100 year old event takes place at Cannon Park Racecourse, home to the Cairns Jockey Club and over a century of racing tradition.

A string of new initiatives and reinvigorated carnivals has led to racing being recognised as a significant leader in event tourism for the region.

The Cairns Cup was judged winners of the best Festival & Event at the Tourism Tropical North Queensland Awards in both 2013 & 2014.

The event had the support of racing’s royalty through an ambassador programs, racing identities such as Damien Oliver and Sheila Laxton with the Melbourne Cup have seen the events increase visitation to the region.

The Cairns Cup utilised its special backyard to send the Melbourne Cup scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef generating close to $1 million in publicity for racing and the region.
