100 Years at Cannon park!

The Cairns Jockey Club and the Cairns Community is looking forward to another stellar racing year as we celebrate 100 YEARS OF RACING AT CANNON PARK. 

Our upcoming meetings are set to be of high standard with three feature meetings approaching.  Along with the Annual Cellarbrations Cairns Cup Carnival and Melbourne Cup Race Day on November 1st.  

April 9th was our kick off for the year and we welcome the Men of League Charity who are coming on as naming day sponsor for the first time.

IGA and the Leukaemia Foundation are also back but with a change of date, moving to our race day on the Queen's Birthday long weekend of Saturday 11th June. This change is to broaden the event to a whole weekend of family orientated activities.   

This event has been occurring for many years now and provides a great crowd for the local racing industry as well as much needed fundraising for a worth cause. A bumper crowd will be treated to a Big Screen TV in the Centre Field.

Saturday the 2nd of July will feature the hosting of the Tradies & Ladies Race Day, aimed at attracting a different audience to the races.   The day will feature five local races, along with on course activities to make the day even more enjoyable.

The quality of racing in Cairns will again be lifted with 2yr olds purchased at the QTIS sales in April and vying for the $50k QTIS 600 feature race which will be held again in conjunction with Brother’s League Club Cox Plate Day on the 22nd October. 

Cairns Cup planning is well under way, with a few changes occurring this year to cater to our loyal patrons.  Ladies Day on Saturday is always a fantastic day for all and we will see a six race event program this year with quality racing and we will back it up on Sunday for the three feature races being the Lightning Handicap, Cazaly’s Newmarket and the Cellarbrations Cairns Cup.  Sunday being the big day of racing we will have full Tab and Sky Channel coverage.
