PRESENT - What's happening in 2010

Racing at Cannon ParkThe Cairns Jockey Club and the Cairns Community is looking forward to another stellar racing year.  With 2009 being such an outstanding year this season holds many expectations.  Our upcoming meetings are set to be of high standard with three feature meetings approaching.  Along with the Annual Cairns Cup Carnival and after last years’ success we have been able to secure the Melbourne Cup Race Day on November 2nd.  April 17th we see the opening Race Day of 2010 being held at Cannon Park.

IGA and the Leukaemia Foundation have come aboard with their much appreciated support, to hold the IGA Leukaemia Foundation Charity Race Day on Saturday May 15th.   This event has been occurring for many years now and provides great crowd for the local racing industry.  The CJC have been able to secure another race so we will be featuring 6 races throughout the day.

June 3rd will feature the hosting of the Tradies & Ladies Race Day, aimed at attracting a different audience to the races.  There will be a different atmosphere to most race days, trying to target all types of audience.  The day will feature five local races, along with on course activities to make the day even more enjoyable.Fashions on the Field

The quality of racing in Cairns is this year set to lift with the QTIS 600 for two year olds on again.  Brother’s League Club we be hosting their Race Day on the 23rd October.  The main race being the QTIS 600 for two year olds, worth ($50k) in prize money.  This is sure to entice owners to race their two year olds locally and in turn will promote Cairns Racing.

Cairns Cup planning is well under way, with a few changes occurring this year to cater to our loyal patrons.  Ladies Day on Saturday is always a fantastic day for all and we will see a six race event program this year with quality racing and we will back it up on Sunday for the three feature races being the Cairns Post Lightning Handicap, Cazaly’s Newmarket and the Cellarbrations Cairns Cup.  Sunday being the big day of racing we will have full Tab and Sky Channel coverage.

2010 racing Season at Cannon Park is set to be a standout year for the club.
