Carnival Ambassador

Millicent van der Velde named 2019 Red Beret Hotel Cairns Cup Carnival Ambassador

Southern fashionista and racing icon Millicent van der Velde has been revealed as the Red Beret Hotel Cairns Cup Carnival 2019 Ambassador.

The racing fashion blogger (by Millicent Zaria), model and Business student will attend both days of the Carnival and is ‘thrilled’ to be named the Ambassador. “It’s an opportunity to bring attention to racecourses across Australia which are important to the racing industry, local businesses and the social life of locals. I hope to engage interest and encourage people to put Cairns Cup on their to-do-list.”

A keen racegoer, Millicent’s family has been involved in the racing industry for nearly 160 years. It’s no surprise Millicent attended her first race day at 8 weeks old and is now the proud part owner of her first racehorse.

“I love watching the horses run and trying to pick a winner”.

Millicent joins the fashions on the field judging panel and will be looking for an “elegant overall look, with a nod to current racewear trends whilst demonstrating comfort and confidence in the outfit.” She noted that Cairns’ has a “thriving racing and fashion community with excellent milliners and fashion designers.”

Millicent was a member of the Brisbane Racing Club fashion committee before relocating to Sydney (2017 – 2018). She brings an array of knowledge to the judging panel having judged and won fashions on the field at numerous Southern race meetings.

Cairns Jockey Club event & marketing manager Shahnee Ricci said Millicent’s “fresh energy” will be a wonderful asset to this year’s Carnival. With record pre-sales, “she will continue to raise the stakes of Cairns’ richest racing event by playing an integral part in the exposure and promotions of the Carnival whilst also raising further awareness interstate.”

Millicent looks forward to sharing her experiences and encouraging fellow racing and fashion enthusiasts to come to Cairns.

“It was a coup to secure Millicent for our largest race meeting of the year. We wanted a vibrant ambassador who would shine and Millicent will do that easily.”

The Red Beret Hotel Cairns Cup Carnival begins on Saturday 3rd August with the Red Beret Hotel & IGA Leukaemia Cairns Cup Day 1.
